Granted, most of that time he has been in the cockpit of full sized land yachts, where Robert holds three America's Cup Landsailing Championship Titles. Along the way, Robert has competed in land sailing events around the world. In 1991, Robert developed a model version of his very successful Stiletto Land Yacht. Scaling to a smaller size is not as easy as it sounds, as all of us in model sailing know. But in no time, Robert's model Stiletto made quite a name for it self. Since Robert has been building models all his life, he had the skill, experience, and technical knowledge - all it took was a little testing to confirm his design ideas. The Stealth was born in 2002, built first to the Class 2 land sailing rule. This developmental rule is called a "box" rule because the finished boat must fit in a box with the inside dimensions of that class. For instance, the S2 (which stands for Stealth Class 2) must fit into the international class 2 box with the following interior dimensions.
In fact, the S2 is not the full height it could be, reaching 130 cm (51.18"). But remember, if it fits in the box, it qualifies. One Design - Robert decided to make the Stealths a line of true one-design boats. That means that the boat will not change from the original except for improvements that affect function and durability. Performance and dimensions will not be changed. The goal of one-design is to eliminate "wallet racing", where owners are required to keep pouring money into their boats to keep up. There are two other great values of one-design boats. One, they are less expensive to produce because the boat does not change - this keeps the retail price down. And more importantly, they hold their resale value, because they are never obsolete. Super Kit - Part of Robert's design criteria was to build a kit that was truly complete, yet economical ~ a kit that lacked ambiguity, and ensured success for the builder. It costs money to cover all the bases, and the battle is to refine the design to reach this goal. The S2 showed the most promise of providing more sailing bang for the buck. During production of the first 24 kits, the entire production process was streamlined to lower production costs. The end result surprised even Robert since the S2 is not only cost conscious, but is better than the original design. One Niter - Robert knew fewer people have the time, nor skill, to build complicated models. Therefore, the latest modifications to the Stealth line turned them into true "one-niter" kits. Even though the Stealths are available ready-to-sail, the vast majority of owners purchase them as a kits since they are so easy to complete. Easy to Sail - One last, but important, design requirement ~ the boat must be easy to sail. That means that it must perform so well that it is forgiving to beginners. The result is a boat that you can sail and enjoy your very first day. And, if you aspire to race your boat, you can quickly learn the finer points of speed and maneuvering. Buyer's Choice - Model Sailing Center has chosen to handle the Stealth line in large part because of the careful attention to details and the depth of knowledge and experience of the designer/builder. These are terrific land sailers because they are designed to meet the important criteria demanded by our marketplace. Quality, performance, durability, completeness, simplicity, and Value! Thanks Robert for a truly revolutionary line of land sailers.
